New Rochelle — The New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off Party, designed to raise the level of children’s enthusiasm for a summer of reading pleasure, will be held on Saturday, June 28th, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Geared for children entering Pre-K – Grade 5, the event will feature two performances of magic, gravity-defying stunts, and electrifying tricks by the members of the National Circus Project. The performances will take place on Library Green, where the BID Farmer’s Market will also be taking place, or the library’s Ossie Davis Theater in the event of inclement weather. Children can also experience a variety of craft projects and science experiments on Library Green and in the library’s Meeting Room.
Parents will have an opportunity to register their children for the summer reading incentive program, which has as its theme, Fizz, Boom, Read! Science is Magic. Each child registering will receive materials to keep track of the books they read so that they can win prizes throughout the summer and receive an invitation to the End of Summer Reading Party. The Summer Reading Kick-off Party is sponsored by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).
From July 7th – August 20th, a full slate of free summer programs for preschool and elementary school students will be offered at the main library and the Huguenot Children’s Library, including nature, crafts, calligraphy, chess, visits from live animals, international music and dance performances, and family films.
