Off Duty Nypd Officer Indicted In Pelham Shooting

Brendan croninNEW ROCHELLE, NY —- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that an indictment was handed up today against Brendan Cronin (DOB 12/11/86) of 60 Ball Avenue, Yonkers, New York charging him with:

• two counts of Attempted Murder, class “B” Felonies,

• two counts of Assault in the First Degree, class “B” Felonies

• one count of Driving While Intoxicated, a class “A” Misdemeanor.

On April 29, 2014, at approximately 11:55 PM, the defendant, an off duty New York City Police Officer, was enroute home from City Island after spending a day of in-service training at the New York Police Department’s Firearms and Tactics Section at Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx.

While his vehicle was parked in the vicinity of the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, the defendant approached a vehicle occupied by two individuals that was stopped at a traffic light.

The defendant stood alongside the passenger side of the victims’ automobile and fired numerous shots from a 9mm semi-automatic handgun into the victims’ car.

One victim, was shot six times suffered serious physical injuries, including but not limited to multiple gunshot wounds to his back, shoulder, arm and chest, injuries that required multiple surgeries.

The defendant then proceeded to leave the scene and was stopped a few blocks away by Pelham police and subsequently arrested.

Additionally, it was determined that he had been operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.

The defendant was arraigned by Felony Complaint on April 29th, 2014 and bail set at $150,000.

Arraignment on the indictment is pending.

He faces a maximum sentence of twenty five years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Timothy Ward of the Superior Court Trial Division is prosecuting the case.
