Man Dies After Jumping in Front of Train in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 39 year-old man has died after jumping in front of a Metro-North commuter train Monday evening, sources say.

The man suffered multiple injuries including the complete severing of his leg at the thigh when the train rolled over him just was the Manhattan-bound train arrived at the New Rochelle station at about 8:40 p.m. on Monday.

Witnesses say the man ran alongside the train and then jumped directly in front of the moving train.

One witness described the man as “clearly disturbed” and seeking to kill himself.

New Rochelle Police, Firefighters and Paramedics along with MTA emergency responders responded to the scene. The man was taken to Montefiore Medical Center’s trauma center where he later died.
