NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 39 year-old man jumped in front of a Metro-North commuter train this evening as rush hour was ending. The Manhattan-bound train was just arriving at the New Rochelle station when the man ran alongside the train and then jumped directly in front of the moving train.

New Rochelle Police, Firefighters and Paramedics along with MTA emergency responders. The man was taken to Montefiore Medical Center’s trauma center in serious condition.

The incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on Monday.

One reliable source familiar with the New Rochelle Transit Center provided Talk of the Sound with several first hand accounts from the scene:

“Tremendously sad. Clearly guy tried to off himself. ‎From what I was told by one of the Metro-North train conductors, engineer at front driving said the guy timed it perfectly running perpendicular to the train and jumping off platform right in front of the train getting hit by the speeding train and then under.”

“Guy clearly not in right mind.”

“The guy is alive as of this minute. NRFD and paramedics saved the guy for now. He may not be happy about it.”

“Guy just jumped in front of a train in New Rochelle. NRFD on scene to get person out from underneath the train as he was stuck under train with left leg severed from thigh down. Gruesome sight. They got him out quickly and to hospital. ‎Unreal. Ugly scary.”
