Shooting in New Rochelle at D’Onofrio Park, 1 Victim Critical

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A man was shot and critically injured during a party at a park in New Rochelle Sunday evening.

The shooting incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. A call came into police at 6:24 p.m., report of one shot fired, one person down.

Police received a report that the suspect is Anthony Morgan, last seen wearing black and red, driving a black 4-door Toyota. A drivers license check for Anthony Morgan showed a Mount Vernon residence.

AnthonyMorganAnthony Morgan, 38, of 236 S. Fifth Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony after he was found with 22 envelopes containing heroin.

The shooting took place in a parking lot behind the softball diamond in the far corner of the field. Victim was identified as “Male/Black” no other details.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center. New Rochelle Police detectives went to the hospital.

Residents living along Emmet Terrace said it appears to be “hundreds” of people streaming up the hill towards Weyman Avenue.

Police confirmed it was a large crowd but did not provide an estimate. Officers scrambled to close off the area and make identification of the people leaving the area but were overwhelmed by the fast moving crowd.

New Rochelle Youth Bureau Kelly Johnson was on scene but did not respond to request for comment.
