NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 Susan Varsames, M.A.E.d will be recognized as “Woman Of The Year” by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle. This recognition will take place during the organization’s 52nd Annual Golf Outing & Tennis Challenge at Wykagyl Country Club. This award is presented to Ms Varsames for her years of dedication to serving children, in particular those with special needs.
Varsames is the founder of Holistic Learning Center, an organization that offers expertise in the field of language, learning, behavior, and motor delays/disorders. The center works with children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Auditory Processing Disorder, Language Delay, Learning Disabilities, and Global Developmental Delay and offers them a variety of services to support their growth and development.
A staff trainer for special education programs and school districts for over 30 years, Ms Varsames earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from New York University. Her areas of study were Educational Psychology, Special Education and Early Childhood Special Education. “I believe that children are our greatest resource and have devoted my professional life to helping them, particularly those with special needs reach their full potential. That’s why the mission and message of the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle resonates so deeply with me. Knowing that the organization offers high quality programming for all children, including those with special needs, inspires me to help raise awareness and funds to support the kids they serve each day!”
“Like our Club, Susan has a long history of positively impacting children within the community says Quay Watkins, Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle Executive Director. The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle now offers yoga programming for children with special needs and our hope is to someday provide the kids with even more opportunities they might not otherwise enjoy. Events like the Annual Golf Outing and Tennis Challenge raise critical dollars to support the Club’s daily operations and programs. My hope is that many people come out to join us as we honor Susan, her fellow honorees and the dedicated members of our Golf Outing ant Tennis Challenge Planning Committee for their outstanding energy and efforts!”
