NEW ROCHELLE, NY — As first reported on Talk of the Sound, President Barack Obama spent a part of the Friday going into the Labor Day Weekend in New Rochelle, NY raising cash for Democrats and getting a quick tour of the East End of the City.
An entourage of Secret Service, New York State Troopers, Westchester County Police, New Rochelle Police, National Media, and various official looking people in business attired filled up the streets around Emerson Point, a short private road off Emerson Avenue near Premium Point in New Rochelle.
A crowd of 20 neighbors gathered on front lawns to watch the arrival of the President at 2:35 PM, just an hour and 20 minutes after Marine One took off from the South Lawn of the White House — a bit earlier than expected.
Obama spent an hour at the home of Camilo A. Patrignani, the CEO of Greenwood Energy.
By the time he was ready to leave, word had gotten around the neighborhood and about 50 people had gathered on Emerson Avenue near the entrance to Emerson Point. An additional 30 people were standing on the front lawns of the homes on Emerson Point.
Small crowds gathered at intersections along the route of the Presidential motorcade.
Helicopters hovered over head.
Police put out an alert of a man leaving Yonkers approaching New Rochelle, reportedly with an AK-47 in his possession and an intention to “disrupt” the Presidential visit in New Rochelle. Police were on the lookout for a Volkswagon Jetta with specific license tags.
Traffic in the area was completely shut down as the President moved through the area turning I-95 into a parking lot as all traffic was locked in place as the President came down I-95 South, getting off at Exit 16, and then back on to I-95 when he left the area.
Obama left New Rochelle for a fundraiser in Purchase, NY. He will head back to Washington, DC tonight and then fly back to Westchester County Airport on Saturday to attend a wedding, also as first reported by Talk of the Sound.
