NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two suspects in a police chase that ended tearing up several back yards in the Sycamore Park section of New Rochelle have been charged and are to be arraigned today in New Rochelle City Court.
Temel Clarke, 19, of Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn and the drive of the vehicle is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a felony (for the damage done to fences, a shed and a deck in the yards of the homes on Hill St), Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, a misdemeanor, Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, a misdemeanor (the car was a rental but he was not on the rental agreement and not supposed to be driving it). Clarke was also issued numerous vehicle and traffic summonses
“Numerous iPads, iTunes Cards and cell phones were seized from the vehicle,” said Westchester County Police spokesperson Kieran O’Leary. “That aspect of the investigation is pending and additional charges are anticipated.”
O’Leary said the incident began as a result of fraud investigation by a Westchester County Police Detective at the Target store in Mount Vernon. The Detective picked up the subjects of a surveillance leaving Target. He followed them until the drive made a minor traffic infraction at which point he moved in to pull them over. The driver, Clarke, allegedly attempted to drive away. The detective says he went around Clark to cut him off at which point Clarke rammed the WCPD vehicle. A chase ensued, ending in the backyard of a New Rochelle resident.
Also arrested was Kevin Blake, 21, of Brooklyn, NY (photo pending).
Blake, the individual who got in the back of a Bluebird taxi in an attempt to flee the scene, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation (he had a small amount of marijuana on him). He was released last night on a desk appearance ticket. Further charges are possible in connection with the pending fraud investigation, according to O’Leary.
The third person in the vehicle remains at large. The suspect is a Male/Black, 150 pounds, 5’10”, wearing shorts, black and white Air Jordan sneakers.
