NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Talk of the Sound has learned of plans by members of the New Rochelle High School football team to boycott heir game this weekend, a home game against Ramapo High School scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
While this may just be talk at this point, many of the players, their coaches and former players are known to be upset at the response of the school district in the wake of the release of a video showing Ray Rice punching his then-finance now-wife Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City hotel elevator. The District issued an explanation of their actions this morning.
New Rochelle High School Head Football Coach Louis DeRienzo reportedly threatened to resign as football coach earlier this week in protest over an order to remove Ray Rice’s jerseys and photos from the high school.
Students have pushed back against the District by putting up their own Ray Rice Wall of Fame photo and plaque (tweet below).
