NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On Friday, September 19th, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, the New Rochelle League of Women Voters’ first Coffee and Conversation program for the 2014-2015 series will feature Luiz Aragon, who was appointed Commissioner of Development for the City of New Rochelle in January, 2013. Commissioner Aragon will address “Growth & Preservation” in New Rochelle.
Before taking the New Rochelle position, Mr. Aragon served as Planning Commissioner of Sullivan County, New York and prior to that as Deputy Commissioner of Preservation and Development for the City of New York. His expertise includes community development, economic development and revitalization, housing, planning, and environmental management. As a member of the Mid-Hudson Region Sustainable Consortium, Mr. Aragon assisted in the development the regional plan which includes a renewable energy strategy that creates jobs while reducing costs.
The development commissioner is a key figure in New Rochelle, overseeing the city’s end of major projects such as the potential development of homes, stores and parkland on Echo Bay and in downtown New Rochelle, and Iona College’s plans for new dormitories.
