NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Folksinger-Songwriter Caroline Doctorow will perform Songtrails Live! at The College of New Rochelle on Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. Doctorow’s show will include appearances by two recognized folk/Americana singer-songwriters, Julie Gold, Grammy winner for From a Distance, and Hugh Prestwood (Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame member). Also appearing will be Amelia Ellis, CNR alumna ’14, who has recently performed in New York City at venues such as the Bitter End and Path Café. The show will be taped for Doctorow’s radio program in CT (WPKN 89.5 FM Bridgeport) later this fall.

Caroline Doctorow is a sought after singer-songwriter who performs her unique blend of original and folk/Americana covers across New York, Connecticut and the Berkshires. She has released 10 solo albums and participated in more than a dozen others, with song styles ranging from western-themed folk to alternative country music. A respected performer and musician in her own right, she visited the College last year to accept an award on behalf of her father, famous New Rochelle author and recipient of the National Humanities Medal, E.L. Doctorow, when the College honored him and the City of New Rochelle by performing Ragtime, based on his novel. Plans were made shortly thereafter for her return this October.

Julie Gold, best known for Bette Midler’s version of her song From A Distance, which won the Grammy for Song of the Year in 1991, is a New York songwriter. Other artists who have recorded her songs include Patti LaBelle, Patti LuPone, Lea Salonga, Andrea Marcovicci, Carol Woods, Sinead O’Connor, and Kathie Lee Gifford. She has created four CDs of her work: Dream Loud, Try Love, The Girl I Found and Love is Love is Love. She is currently involved in a project writing songs for the Oxford University Press for a series that teaches English to elementary school children all over the world.

Hugh Prestwood, a native of El Paso, Texas, was discovered in 1978 by Judy Collins, who gave him his first hit (Hard Times For Lovers), and went on to record five more of his songs. In 2006, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, the same year as Jimmy Buffett and Jim Weatherly. He composed #1 hits for Randy Travis, Trisha Yearwood, Michael Johnson, Shenandoah, Crystal Gayle, and Collin Raye. Other artists that have recorded his songs include Anne Murray, Conway Twitty, Tanya Tucker, The Judds, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Jerry Douglas, and Alison Krauss. Prestwood has taught Advanced Songwriting at Manhattan’s The New School, as well as at NSAI workshops throughout the country.
