The College of New Rochelle Volleyball Wins 15th Match, 3-0, At Yeshiva University

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle volleyball team won for the 15th time this season, and in 14 of those wins, including last night’s Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) win over Yeshiva University, the win came in straight sets. The win was the 15th in the last 16 games for the Blue Angels, who improve to 15-4 on the season and 3-0 in HVIAC action.

Meghan King (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) tallied a match-high 10 kills against no errors, hitting at a .455 clip. She added seven of the team’s 19 service aces. Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR/University Gardens) chipped in with eight kills while hitting .636. Indigo Flowers (Castro Valley, CA/Castro Valley) handed out a match-high 15 assists, adding six aces of her own, while Melanie Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR/Notre Dame) tallied 14 assists, five kills, three aces and eight digs.

Shaina Hourizadeh dug up a match-high 12 balls for Yeshiva.

The match began with a 12-0 run from CNR. After Yeshiva broke the ice with a kill, the Blue Angels used another 12-0 run, which included six aces from King, to cruise to the 25-2 win.

With CNR holding a 4-3 lead in the early going of the second set, an 11-2 burst gave the Blue Angels a 16-5 lead. The Macs did not get closer than eight the rest of the set as CNR took a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win.

Indigo Flowers held serve for the first 12 points in the deciding set and the Blue Angels pushed the lead to 19-3 en route to a 25-7 victory.

The Blue Angels host HVIAC foes Pratt Institute and Culinary Institute of America Saturday at the Wellness Center in a tri-match. The Pratt versus CNR match, slated to kick off the day at 11:00 AM, will decide the HVIAC regular season championship.
