NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two College of New Rochelle athletes were recognized by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) on Tuesday with weekly accolades. Senior Samantha Gomez (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) was named AD3I Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and junior Tayler Fisher (Wilmington, DE/Conrad School of Science) earned AD3I Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the second week in a row.
Gomez had a strong week for the Blue Angels, posting her first two wins of the season. The senior teamed up with Nancy Varughese at No. 1 doubles versus York College to earn an 8-4 victory and picked up her second win of the day at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Fisher was the top finisher for the Blue Angels at the College of Staten Island Invitational, completing the 5K course with a time of 24:03.4 to place 41st overall out of 162 runners.
Fisher and the The College of New Rochelle Cross Country team will compete this Saturday October 4th in the Mount Saint Mary College Invitational beginning at 11am. Gomez will look to lead the tennis team to their first victory this Friday October 3rd as they take on Berkeley College at 4pm.
