NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On Senior Night at The College of New Rochelle, senior Meghan King (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) broke the school record for hitting percentage in a match, converting at a .593 clip to lead the Blue Angels (22-7) to a 3-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference match played at the Wellness Center.
Prior to the start of the match, CNR senior King, Diana Desir (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley), Erica Cuscina (Patterson, NY/School of the Holy Child), Shamella Bartholomew (Brooklyn, NY / Benjamin Banneker Academy) and Emily Fontoura (Yonkers, NY/The Ursuline School) were recognized in a ceremony honoring their time on the team.
King added a match-high 16 kills while committing zero errors on her record breaking night. Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR/University Gardens) added six kills and a team-high 14 digs, while Melanie Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR/Notre Dame) handed out a match-high 15 assists.
Taylor DePalma paced Albertus Magnus (4-17) with six kills.
With the Blue Angels leading, 5-4, in the opening set, a 15-6 run gave CNR a 20-10 lead en route to a 25-17 win. The second set saw CNR use a 15-3 run to turn a 10-7 lead into a 25-10 victory. Albertus Magnus led, 5-4, in the third set before CNR again utilized a large run, closing out the set and the match with a 21-7 run to take the set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.
The Blue Angels close out the regular season on Friday, October 24, traveling to take on the College of Staten Island in a match slated to begin at 7:00 PM before returning to the Wellness Center on Sunday, October 26 to defend their HVIAC Tournament title. CNR, the top seed, takes on #4 St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn in a semifinal match scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
