Volleyball Sweeps Canisius On The Road

BUFFALO, NY – The Iona College volleyball team avenged an earlier season defeat to Canisius with a three-set win over the Golden Griffins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Koessler Center. The Gaels took the first two sets by the same score, 25-21, and came from behind in the third to win 25-19. The Maroon & Gold had another strong performance up the middle from senior Shannon Ward and sophomore Karly White in the victory.

White hit a team-best .478 with 13 kills on 23 attempts with two errors, a day after hitting .500 with 16 kills. She posted five blocks in her 16.0 point effort. Ward also had 13 kills, hitting .321 with two blocks. Rookie Kassandra Darnaby added 10 kills and seven digs while senior Catrina Warren recorded six kills and led the Gaels with 16 digs. Senior Taylor Cembalisty had three kills and nine digs from the right side. Junior setter Natalie Ziskin had a double-double with 41 assists and 10 digs. Libero Katie Marabella had 10 digs.

Canisius’ was led by 11 kills from Katlyn Tyler. Rachel Kline had a 10-kill, 11-dig double-double. Setter Grace Streicher had 28 assists and 10 digs while libero Emily Litwin posted 24 digs.

The Gaels are back in action next weekend against MAAC leaders Marist (Nov. 1) and Siena (Nov. 2) on the road
