NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College women’s soccer team completed its 2014 campaign with a 3-0 setback to Fairfield University Wednesday afternoon at Mazzella Field.
The Gaels outshot the Stags 14-13 in the contest, but only five of Iona’s attempts were on net. The Gaels also held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Erika Flowers led the Gaels with six shots, including two on net.
Fairfield opened the scoring in the 16th minute on Michelle Kowalski’s second goal of the year. The Stags then extended the lead to two on Karolyn Collins’ first of the season in the 37th minute. Late in the second half, Fairfield added its third goal of the game on Ashley Small’s eighth of the year.
Iona goalkeeper Lauren Ferris made eight saves in net, while Fairfield netminder Kathleen Early had five stops.
The Gaels conclude their season with a 6-10-3 overall record, and 2-5-3 mark in league play.
