LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona College volleyball team fell to Siena in five sets in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at the Alumni Recreation Center. The Saints took down the Gaels 30-28, 21-25, 25-20, 17-25, and 15-8. It was the Maroon & Gold’s ninth five set match of the season, matching the second-highest single-season total in school history (1998) and one shy of the school record (2007).
Seniors Shannon Ward and Catrina Warren led the Gaels with 17 kills apiece. Ward posted six blocks for a team-best 20.5 points and also led with a .368 hitting percentage. Warren recorded her team-high 17 double-double of the season adding 12 digs. She also posted two aces and a block.
Sophomore Meghan Nelson posted her first collegiate double-double with career-highs of 10 kills and 12 digs. Her two blocks and two aces were also her best performance in 15 career matches in Maroon & Gold. Junior setter Natalie Ziskin had her fourth double-double of the year with 48 assists and 12 digs. She added four kills on nine attempts and four blocks in the loss. Senior libero Katie Marabella recorded 20 digs.
Siena’s Meghann Wright led four performers with 10 or more kills posting an 18-kill, 18-dig double-double. Setter Haley Howell posted 53 assists and 17 digs while libero Bobbi Lin Kalama had 27 digs in the win.
Iona hosts the MAAC’s Connecticut schools next weekend at the Hynes Center, taking on Fairfield Saturday (Nov. 8) and Quinnipiac Sunday (Nov. 9). The Gaels and Bobcats will square off on the Maroon & Gold’s senior day.
