NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Three members of the Iona College women’s soccer team were named to All-MAAC teams for their performances during the 2014 campaign. Senior defender Sali Ayinde was named to the All-MAAC First Team, while sophomore forward Erika Flowers was a Second Team selection. Freshman forward Charlotte Stuart was recognized on the All-MAAC Rookie Team.
Ayinde earned her third career All-MAAC accolade after leading an Iona backline that finished sixth in league play in goals allowed.
Flowers registered a team high 18 points for the Maroon & Gold this past season, and her eight goals were also tops on the squad. Her 18 points were fifth in the league, and her eight goals tied for third.
Stuart had a standout rookie campaign for the Gaels, registering 17 points on six goals and five assists. Her five helpers led the team and were tied for third in the MAAC.
Seven of Iona’s eligible student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic team. Ayinde and fellow seniors Safi Ayinde, Samantha Fiorenzo, Gabriella Fuduli and Natalie Murphy were recognized along with sophomores Emily Hansen and Alexa Wagoner.
The Gaels completed the 2013 season with a 6-10-3 overall record and 2-5-3 mark in MAAC action.
