The New Rochelle Mitey-Mites football team is “Going to Disney World!”

After first defeating the Buffalo Mitey-Mites in the Semi-Finals, the New Rochelle team went on to defeat the Poughkeepsie Mitey-Mites to win the Mitey-Mites Eastern Regional Championship and earn a spot in the Mitey-Mites National Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

“We are very excited,” said New Rochelle Youth Tackle President Joseph Fosina. “We have a lot of children on this team that might never otherwise go on a trip to Disney World or even fly in a plane.”

While in Florida, the team will play at least two games and visit Disney World for a day of enjoying rides and seeing the sights.

The cost of the trip is $40,000 — enough to cover travel and expenses for all 32 players, Head Coach Nate Adams and his 5 coaches, a team mom and league officials. The team is raising money through a GoFundMe web site — they are more than 1/4 of the way through to their goal. Talk of the Sound is supporting the team by donating a free one month display ad on our site and in our daily newsletter.

The Mitey-Mite Bowl games, feature eight teams in the Mitey-Mite age/weight division (7-9 years old / 45-90 pounds). Mighty Mites is a division of Pop Warner Football.

Making it this far is no small feat for the undefeated New Rochelle Mitey-Mites (they are 22-0 since 2013). In order to advance to the Pop Warner Super Bowl, a team must win its respective League Championship as well as the Regional Championship. Each advancing team is guaranteed to play two games at the Super Bowl, with a National Champion being crowned in each age-weight division and competition level.

The 2014 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships will take place from Saturday, December 6th through Saturday, December 13th at ESPN Wide World of Sports™ Complex.

You may have heard about the Mitey-Mites team from Wallkill, NY after a video of them failing to break through a paper banner went viral, they went on to appear on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:
