NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Behind the strength of a pair of wins from sophomore Natalie Bowman and freshmen Charles Blaschinski, Christian Foti and Kaitlyn Mahon, along with another ten individual wins from different swimmers, the Iona College swimming and diving team swept MAAC rival Manhattan College in a dual meet at the Hynes Center Pool Saturday afternoon.
“This was a solid day for us to get back on the winning track as we prepare for the important Loyola Invite,” commented Coach Nick Cavataro. “I was particualrly pleased today with our diver’s efforts and the group focus up and down the roster.”
The Iona women tallied 176 to Manhattan’s 96 points with Bowman’s wins coming in the 50 and 100-Free at 25.71 and 54.64, respectively. Mahon’s wins coming in the 1000 and 500-Free with respective times of 11:05.69 and 5:26.66.
On the men’s side Blaschinski, claimed the one and three-meter springboard events with totals of 185.80 and 214.40, respectively. Foti, took 200-Free at 1:47.16 and the 500-Free at 4:58.13.
Other individual event winners on the women’s side included: Alexandra DiBase took the 200-Butterfly at 2:15.79; Elizabeth Kaczmarek took the 100-Backstroke at 1:05.19; Maria Lopez claimed the 100-Butterfly at 1:00.86; Mary Ellen Mangione took the 200-Individual medley at 2:13.45; Leigh Musselman won the 200-Freestyle at 2:00.94; and, Alicia Raffle took the one-meter springboard at 178.60.
Men’s individual winners included Keegan Boisson-Yates in the 100-Backstroke at 53.91; Dylan Mechanic took the 200-Butterfly at 1:59.31; Collin Purrman grabbed the 1000-Freestyle at 10:01.59
Next up for the team is the H2Oounds Invitational at Loyola University where the team will see former MAAC rival Loyola along with MAAC teams Marist College and St. Peter’s University.
