NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Following up on the verbal commitment that came via Twitter over the summer, and with his senior season getting underway, Matthew Ryan ’15 signed his National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame on Nov. 12.
Surrounded by family, friends and, of course, his teammates, Ryan put pen to paper and made the scholarship offer official. Afterward, the 6-foot-8-inch shooting forward said he felt relieved, but that there was still unfinished business.
“It’s great knowing that I can focus on this year and winning a championship,” said Ryan, who missed most of last season after having surgery on both hips. “This is everything that I’ve worked for [Notre Dame], but I’m not leaving here without a ring.”
Ryan, coach Victor Quirolo and President Brother Thomas Leto all agreed that Notre Dame was the right fit, as it would recognize and hone the senior’s gifts both in and out of the classroom.
“Notre Dame is the perfect fit for Matt both academically and athletically, with an excellent academic reputation and storied basketball program that plays in the top conference in the country,” Quirolo said. “We all look forward to Matt having an outstanding career at Notre Dame.”
