WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Wednesday made the following statement regarding his reelection as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs:
“I’m grateful to my colleagues for once again selecting me as the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee for the 114th Congress.
“Over the last two years, I’ve worked to represent the priorities of our Democratic members and caucus, while at the same time adhering to the belief that when it comes to foreign policy, politics should stop at the water’s edge. With our Chairman Ed Royce, we have collaborated in a bipartisan way to help the United States meet some of our biggest challenges around the world, from countering violent extremism to combating HIV and AIDS to advancing democracy and the rule of law.
“In the days ahead, the United States will face choices from Eastern Europe to the Middle East to the Asia-Pacific that will have repercussions for years to come. The Foreign Affairs Committee must continue to play a role working with the Administration, exercising oversight, and driving legislation that will help our country achieve its aims. As Ranking Member, I remain committed to working toward these goals.”
