NEW ROCHELLE, NY –- The College of New Rochelle Director of Athletics and the Wellness Center Harold Crocker has announced that Joan Manuel Sanchez has been named Women’s Basketball Head Coach.

“We are excited to have Joan take over our basketball program,” said Crocker. “His proven track record of recruiting, and, just as importantly, graduating strong student-athletes are the qualities we were looking for in our head coach. The basketball program is ready to take the next step with him leading our team.”

Sanchez brings over 14 years of college coaching experience to the Blue Angels. His most recent head coaching position was at Union County College, where he guided the 2012-13 Owls to an 18-12 record and the program’s first playoff appearance in 10 years. He improved the team’s win total each of his seasons at the helm. He also held the head coach spot at Division II Concordia College, where he recruited the program’ most successful recent players and posted a road exhibition victory over DI Manhattan College.

He has also served as an assistant or associate coach at Felician College, Lehman College and Hostos Community College and has extensive recruiting ties to the Metropolitan area. His recruiting resume boasts two All-American selections, 19 All-Conference picks, 19 All-Academic honorees, nine 1,000 point scorers and five All-Met recipients.

Sanchez played in integral role in the development of several championship teams, specifically helping Hostos secure the 2005 NJCAA National Championship, the first CUNY school to win a national championship, as well as Lehman’s 2003 CUNYAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Sanchez has had success overseeing all aspects of a collegiate basketball program, including recruiting, practice and game coaching, scouting, conditioning as well as administrative aspects such as scheduling, budget management, academic oversight, compliance and travel.
