NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College men’s soccer standouts Ignacio Maganto and Michael Holzer were among the 33 players named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men’s All-Northeast Region Team. Maganto earned First Team recognition while Holzer was selected to the Third Team.
Maganto was the conference leader in points in 2014, tallying 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. His 11 goals also led the MAAC, while his five assists ranked fourth. He ranks 15th overall in the nation in points, and his 11 goals are 17th most entering this weekend’s College Cup. His 1.5 points per game average is 11th overall in the country, and first in the MAAC. For his efforts this season, Maganto also earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and was a First Team All-MAAC selection.
Holzer, who also earned All-MAAC Second Team honors this season, was a staple in the Iona midfield. In 18 starts, he registered three assists and 11 shots. All three points recorded by Holzer came in critical conference action.
Iona finished the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 9-7-1, and competed in its sixth consecutive MAAC Championship, the longest active streak in the league.
