NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College men’s soccer senior Ignacio Maganto was one of 55 NCAA Division I college seniors invited to participate in the 2015 adidas MLS Player Combine, Major League Soccer announced. Maganto is the first player in program history and currently the lone representative from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Maganto and other top collegiate athletes from across the country will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of representatives from all 20 MLS clubs in Fort Lauderdale, FL from Jan. 8-13, 2015. All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2015 SuperDraft presented by adidas that will take place on Thursday, Jan. 15 in Philadelphia, PA. Maganto was recently apart of TopDrawerSoccer’s MLS Draft Big Board, in which the site ranks players by their projected pro potential based on conversations with scouts and coaches.
Maganto was the MAAC leader in points in 2014, tallying 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. His 11 goals also led the MAAC, while his five assists ranked fourth. He ranks 15th overall in the nation in points, and his 11 goals are 17th most entering this weekend’s College Cup. His 1.5 points per game average is 11th overall in the country, and first in the MAAC. For his efforts this season, Maganto earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honors, was a First Team All-MAAC selection and was recently named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team.
A committee of NCAA Division I coaches from every conference, as well as MLS coaches, selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players, and additional college seniors will be announced in the coming weeks.
