NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Over the last week, the Monroe Mustangs men’s basketball team had a couple of easy wins at home and a bit of a rough time at West Point as they get set for their second annual trip to the Fiesta Bowl shootout in Mesa, AZ. As they head into the holiday, the Mustangs are 9-3 on the season.
“This trip to Arizona will be good for us for a number of reasons,” said Coach Jeff Brustad. “First of all, it’s always a challenge to be far frrm home and have to get yourself ready to play well. Also, this is a quality tournament with quality teams and so it lets us see who is out there and how good we’re going to have to be if we want to reach our goals this year.”
Last year Monroe was 2-1 at the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout, getting two impressive wins over Salt Lake City, 74-71 and South Plains, 73-72 but dropping in the tournament finals to host Mesa, 73-59.
This year, Monroe will open Fiesta Bowl play on Saturday, 12/27 against Ranger College (TX). Tip off is scheduled for 8:00pm (10:00pm NY time). Subsequent matchups will depend on game results.
All of the Fiesta Bowl games will be webcast, so Monroe fans can watch them live. WATCH THE GAMES IN ARIZONA – LIVE!
