Clarke Sets Iona Mile Record At Metro Team Challenge

Clarke ran a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 4:37.82, winning her heat and the race by more than three and a half seconds. Clarke broke teammate Kate Avery’s Iona record time of 4:38.16 set last year at the 2014 MAAC Championships. She topped Villanova’s Stephanie Schappert (4:37.82) and UMBC’s Sarah Daly (4:58.73) with fourth place taken by junior Melissa Hawtin (5:03.70). Freshman Jessica Scheriff finished sixth in 5:08.35.

Senior Marlene Delices earned third place honors in the 1,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:55.42. She was less than a second behind the second place performer. Freshman Danika Jensen was 10th (3:03.25) and rookie Kara McKenna was 17th (3:07.10) in the 32-runner race field.

Freshman Rachel Garn was sixth overall in the 800-meter event with her time of 2:15.98. Sophomore Zoe Wojtech took 22nd (2:23.08) to round out the Gaels Top 25 finishers at the event.
