A long time resident of New Rochelle since 1957, after living in Poland, Switzerland and Israel post WWII, Mrs. Ferstenberg spent some years working as a nursery school teacher at Beth El Synagogue and was extremely active in a number of charitable organizations, including Women’s American Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training (ORT), of which she was a past President of the Shore Chapter and Woman of the Year in 1977. She was active in the Sisterhood, Hadassah, Book Club and Yiddish Club at Beth El and was an avid synagogue member.
She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Ferstenberg, of Belgian heritage, who died in April, 1981, also a Holocaust survivor.
She is survived by her three beloved and adoring children, Annette, an attorney, Henry, a surgeon, and Isaac, an electrical engineer, their three beloved and loving spouses, Jesse Goodman, Pauline and Rosalind, seven loving grandchildren to whom she was extremely devoted, Mallory Goodman, Michael Goodman, Ilissa Wilk, Marielle Ferstenberg, Andrew Ferstenberg, Marlena Ferstenberg, and Jacob Ferstenberg, and one great-grandchild, Brette Wilk, who brought her great joy.
She was popular, well respected and well loved in the community and by all for her vivacious personality, positive nature, always believing that tomorrow will be a better day, intellectual prowess, magnanimous spirit, wonderful sense of humor and kindness. There are no words to describe how sorely she will be missed.
