Monroe Mustangs Men’s and Women’s track and field perform well in Boston

BOSTON, MA — This past week the northeast was hit with a big storm. But that didn’t stop the from losing a stride. The Mustangs brought their best times to Boston, setting more school records at the John Thomas Terrier Classic held this past weekend at Boston University. There were a total of 20 Mustangs that made the journey to Boston and all represented very well with a number of standout and record-setting performances. Adding to their achievement, the Mustangs Men & Women accomplished these performances in this meet that included runners from top NCAA programs such as Boston University, UConn, University of Rhode Island, UMass, Villanova, Morgan State, Fordham, Manhattan College and many more.

Many mustangs turned in stellar performances in their various races and events they participated in.

Firstly for the Mustangs Men Ronaldo Ball put his best foot forward in his 1000m run, setting a personal best performance, gaining national qualification and setting a new Indoor school record with an impressive 2:27.16. Which currently has him rank #1 in the early NJCAA National rankings. Ball was also the lead off leg of the Men DMR, which qualified also for the national tournament. He had a very stellar lead off time of 3:03.57 for the 1200m leg of the race.

Alexshandro Rodriguez also had a personal record setting run on the men National Qualifying DMR with an impressive split on the 800m leg which was a time of 1:51.26.

Tresean Goodwin had another stellar run this season in the 500m when he ran a Personal Best of 1:04.34. Goodwin also split a 47.72 on the 400m leg of the national qualifying DMR.

Damon Daniels had an outstanding performance in his first ever 800m race of his career with  an impressive time of 1:58.64.

In the men 400M run Javaun Grant ran a PR and also gained national qualification with a time of 49.97.

Sabelo Ndlovu had an outstanding performance in the Triple Jump placing second overall with an impressive distance of 14.68m, which currently has him now rank #3 in NJCAA National rankings for this event.

Freshmen Jovan Swaby lso had his best Jump of the season in the High Jump with an impressive height of 2.10m, which also is a new indoor school record.

The Mustang Distance Medley consisting of Ronaldo Ball, Tresean Goodwin, Alexshandro Rodriguez and Shea Coltrain gained the National qualification for the nationals by running a time of 10:18.82 which currently have them rank #2 in the NJCAA Rankings.

Not to be outdone by the Men, the Women also turned in Outstanding performances.

The women 4x400m Relay team consisting of Atara Segree, Jrenda Rivera, Chelsea Edwards and Jaydean Joseph broke a school record and also gained the national qualification with a time of 3:51.39.

Sophomore Atara Segree continued her history-making performance into the mustang record books. Segree not only gained qualifications in the 800m run but also set a school record with a time of 2:19.67.

Sophomore Jaydean Joseph also turned in her best performance in the individual 200m dash in a time of 25.00, which also now qualifies her for the national tournament.

Sophomore Jayvona McDaniels gained national qualification in the 1000m in a time of 3:11.75.

In terms of the open 400m there were several national qualifiers

  • J’renda Rivera with a time of 58.02
  • Jaydean Joseph with a time of 58.16
  • Chelsea Edwards with a time of 58.53

 

Other Notable performances included

  • Shanese Bennett in the women 400m with a PR of 1:03.75
  • Boskhalem Azy in the Mile with a PR of 4:41
  • Shea Coltrain in 3000m with a time of 9:11.67

“This was a great weekend for us, each and everyone was focus and determined to achieve what we set out to do at the beginning of the week. The guys came out motivated and the chemistry they displayed was unbelievable the key for us is to continue to compete against top schools so that we can have a great showing at the National Championship next month, I am very happy and proud of them all,” said coach Lesleigh Hogg.
