Iona Prep Mourns Passing of Ann Mara, First Lady of Football

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona Prep is mourning the loss of Ann T. Mara.

Mara died on Super Bowl Sunday.  She was 85.

“We ask that you keep the Mara family in your thoughts and prayers during this time,” said Iona Prep President Brother Thomas R. Leto.

Mara’s family co-owns the New York Giants football team.

Mara was the matriarch of an Iona Prep legacy family. Her sons John ’72, Chris ’75, Steve ’76 and Frank ’78; grandsons Tim McDonnell ’01, John ’03, Stephen ’05, Sean ’07, Jack ’09, Frankie ’14 ; and son-in-law Timothy Cacase ’84, are all Iona Prep alums. Owen McDonnell is a member of the class of ’17.

A devoted Catholic and philanthropist, Mara was an active participant at the Prep’s annual events.

The services for Mrs. Mara begin today, Thursday, Feb. 5, with visiting hours from 2 – 4 p.m. and again from 7 – 9 p.m. at Frank Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Ave. in New York, N.Y.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, 980 Park Ave., New York, N.Y.
