NEW YORK, NY — The New York Times is reporting that Mary Healy has died at the age of 96 in Calabasas, CA.
In the 1960’s, Mary Healy and her husband Peter Lind Hayes, broadcast a morning show each week from their home in New Rochelle, NY between 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. The couple was part of a WOR radio morning show lineup that featured three husband‐and‐wife teams: Hayes and Healy, the McCanns and the Fitzgeralds.
“They love it when we argue on the air,” said Healy in a 1964 interview with the New York Times.
“We’re even had letters saying, ‘Please argue more.’”
Many metropolitan-area listeners identified with their witty observations and unrehearsed chatter about children, meals, commuting, friends and life’s little exasperations — the things ordinary people talked about over the breakfast table.
Perhaps their most lasting claim to fame was being the first to sing the Chevrolet commercial jingle “See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet”, later popularized by singer and TV show host Dinah Shore. The couple appeared on the popular TV show “What’s My Line“.
