NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe Mustangs men and women relay teams ran their way to victory this past weekend, taking home more medals at the NYRR Millrose Games.
Held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at Manhattan’s Armory, the games are now in their 108th year and are often heralded as the world’s longest-running and most prestigious indoor track and field event.
Both of Monroe’s relay teams put on a stellar performance. As demonstrated time and time again, hard work paid off: the Mustangs men clinched gold in the 4x400m, for the second time.
“These athletes continue to make us proud by acting as worthy ambassadors of our program, and our college,” said Coach Lesleigh Hogg. “Their commitment to self-improvement, on and off the track, has paid dividends and will continue to do so under the expert guidance of their coaches.”
The four Mustang men who achieved first place in the New York College 4x400m College Relay were: Tresean Goodwin, Kahleef Gravensade, Damon Daniels, and Alexshandro Rodriguez, who is fast becoming one of Monroe’s most noteworthy performers. They completed the race in 3:16:00, defeating NCAA teams from other nearby colleges such as Manhattan and Adelphi.
Monroe also had a strong team, consisting of Tikuan Johnson, Jvaughn Tyson,Walter Penate and Christopher Belcher that finished third in the men’s 4x200m, running in 1:29:72.
Not do be outdone by the men, the Mustang women also enjoyed a very impressive run at this event, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 4x200m Relay and 4x400M relay.
The silver medal-winning 4×200 Relay team comprised Denesha Ransome, Mikah Epps, Teena Mobley and Jaydean Joseph, who finished with a commendable time of 1:43:85
The women who placed 3rd in the New York College 4×400 Relay were Jaydean Joseph , J’renda Rivera, Chelsea Edwards, and Atara Segree, with a finish time of 3:52:875.
