NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College lacrosse team fell to Brown 13-6 in early season non-conference action Friday afternoon at Mazzella Field. The Gaels were unable to come back from an early 3-0 deficit and now stand at 2-2 on the year.

Sophomore Erin Pugh and freshman Pamela Giordano each found the net twice, with Giordano adding an assist for a total of three points on the day. Senior Meghan Testoni and junior Mary Kate McCormick scored the other Iona tallies. In net, junior Blaire Nathanson made seven stops.

After three straight Brown goals to start the day, the Gaels were never able to get within two goals the rest of the way. After cutting the deficit to 4-2 with 10:40 left in the first, the Bears ended the period with the final three scores to grab a 7-2 halftime lead.

Giordano scored the first goal of the second half to cut the margin to four, before a 4-0 run by Brown put the game away. Pugh tallied each of her scores in the final 5:38 of play.

Overall, the Bears held a 22-20 advantage in shots and 14-8 margin in ground balls. Lauren Toy finished with a game-high three goals for Brown.

Iona is back in action Friday, when it welcomes Temple to Mazzella Field for a 3:00 pm start.
