New Rochelle Man Charged with Attempted Murder Following Drive-By Shooting in Upper Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY — Joshua Monsanto, 21, of New Rochelle, NY was arrested early Saturday morning in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan along with a passenger in a car driven by Monsanto, Hugo Rodriguez, 19, of the Bronx. The pair were charged with attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Rodriguez displayed a firearm and shot a 21-year old man following a verbal altercation. The entire incident was observed by undercover New York City police officers.

Police were watching as Monsanto and Rodriguez, driving a silver Honda Accord with tinted windows, shot the victim at the corner of West 172nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The victim was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital and was listed in stable condition. No officers were injured.

Police pulled the car over at West 171st Street. Inside the vehicle police found a .22 caliber Beretta.
