STATEN ISLAND – Being selected for the 2015 ECAC DIII Metro Championships is a statement on where The College of New Rochelle basketball program is headed.  The result of the Blue Angels’ quarterfinal game at third-seeded College of Staten Island was not in their favor, but does not diminish the team’s accomplishments.

Seniors Jah-Leah Ellis and Alyssa Pechin played their final games as Blue Angels (11-12), and, as they have all season, were the leaders of the team.  Ellis tallied her 20th double-double of the season, tallying team-highs with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Pechin chipped in with five points, three assists and two steals while piloting the CNR offense.

Meghan Myrhe led all scorers with 29 points to pace the Dolphins (17-11) who advance to the Tournament Semifinals with a 105-39 win.

CSI, who advanced to the CUNYAC semifinals before falling to eventual champion and ECAC top-seed Brooklyn College, went on an extended run in the first half, opening up a 50 point advantage before halftime.

The game played more evenly over the second 20 minutes, with Ellis recording 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Dolphin depth proved too much to overcome for the shorthanded Blue Angels.

CNR concludes its season with an 11-12 overall record, but having secured a place in program history with this postseason opportunity, which the young squad can use as a basis for the future under first-year head coach, yet HVIAC Coach of the Year recipient Joan Sanchez.
