Ursuline Science Researchers Compete with Distinction

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — All Ursuline seniors competed at the Westchester Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 7th. 500 students competed and 4 of our students received awards.

Quinn Murphy won 3rd Place in the Behavioral Research Category.  She was awarded a medal and a $50 prize, sponsored by Psychogenics Pharmaceuticals. Hana Mahallati won an Excellence in Medical Research Award, given by the Westchester Academy of Medicine in recognition of projects that help people in the biological and medicine and health categories. She was awarded a certificate and $25 prize.

Shannon McKeon won a Sustainable Development Award given by Ricoh America’s Corporation in recognition of outstanding efforts in addressing issues of environmental responsibility and sustainable development. She was awarded a certificate. Alexa DiIorio won a Nutritional Science Award given by Cornell University Division of Nutritional Science in recognition of outstanding research in nutritional science. She was awarded a $50 prize.  

Nine Ursuline science research seniors competed last month at the Westchester-Rockland Junior Science & Humanities Symposium. Seniors Rebecca Mancusi, Hana Mahallati, Quinn Murphy, and Aileen Quinn were selected to speak at the symposium. Science Research is a 3-year elective in which students learn to conduct authentic scientific research on a topic of their choosing.

Five seniors, Alexa DiIorio, Nicole McIntyre, Claire O’Byrne,Kelly Felicetta and Shannon McKeon,  presented their poster boards at the Symposium. Five juniors, Daryn Chin, Alicia Bremnor, Sarah Cosmedy, Angela Ciacci, and Briana Ross, presented their research proposals.

Rebecca Mancusi won 4th place in Cellular & Molecular Biology and will advance to compete in the poster session at the Upstate NY Junior Science & Humanities Symposium on Mar 12 and 13 in Albany, NY. 

The student projects will be on display at th Science Research Symposium at Ursuline on May 19th.
