NORTHRIDGE, CA – The Iona College softball team continued its west coast road swing with a 5-2 loss to Bryant in its third game of the CSUN Tournament at Matador Diamond.
The Gaels were held to just three hits in the contest, with sophomore Katie Newton leading the way with two runs batted in.
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs pushed their first run across in the third inning before adding two runs apiece in the fourth and sixth innings.
Avoiding the shutout, the Gaels scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a single by senior Brianna Schauer and junior Christine Costello reached on an error, Newton drove in two runs with a double to left field.
Sophomore Sarah McMahon (0-3) took the tough luck loss for Iona in the circle, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings. The Gaels complete the CSUN Tournament Sunday, with matchups against Buffalo (12:00 pm) and Colorado State (2:30 pm).
