NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Mangoville was the scene of a violent brawl early Saturday morning, police said. The fight which involved more than ten people broke out about 2 a.m.

The Mangoville Soul Caribbean Restaurant, a popular hangout for Monroe College students, is located in a shopping center at 134 North Avenue.

When a security guard attempted to intervene in the altercation, he was struck in the face with a glass bottle. He suffered lacerations to his left eye and was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

Police did not make any arrests.

Mangoville is a block down the street from the New Roc Mini-Mart owned by Abbas Al-Saidi, a store shut by City officials due to significant building code violations.

Residents have complained that businesses Mangoville and New Roc Mini-Mart are becoming a problem for residents.

“Every weekend for the last several weeks the police have been called due to fighting and loud noise,” said Peter  Pinkowski who lives across the street with his family. “I’m not surprised the violence has escalated.”

Pinkowski would like to see Mangoville shut down.

According to New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll, New Rochelle is among the safest cities in the United States.
