SPARTANBURG, SC- The Iona College baseball team dropped the second doubleheader of the weekend at Wofford, falling 7-0 in the first game and 13-3 in the night cap.
In game one, junior Zach Brown lead the way with a 2-for-3 afternoon, with two singles. The Gaels had five hits in the game, with junior Carmine Palummo, sophomore Kyle DiVico, and junior Vinny DeMaria recording the other three.
On the bump, graduate Eddie Macaluso took the loss, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out six. His earned run average on the season now stands at 3.68.
In the nightcap, four Gaels recorded multi-hit efforts including Palummo, DeMaria, junior Travis Mistretta and freshman Matt Flannery. Rookie Jon Budesa was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored. Palummo was 2-for-4 with a solo home run to center field in the first inning and an RBI single in the Gaels’ half of the fifth.
On the hill, senior John Nargoski took the loss, going 2.0 innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs, striking out two batters and walking two others. Freshmen Joe DeRosa, Patrick Ryan and Ryan Preusse, sophomores Mike McShane and Vinny Martin, and Kevin Lynch all saw action on the mound for the Gaels in the defeat.
The Maroon & Gold are back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 17) when they travel to Stony Brook. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm at Joe Nathan Field.
