ALBANY, NY – The Iona College lacrosse team fell to UAlbany 19-5 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Junior Anna Kelly and sophomore Erin Pugh scored two goals each, while senior Meghan Testoni found the net once. Junior Mary Kate McCormick tallied one assist, her 16th of the season in the game. In goal, senior Blaire Nathanson made 11 stops.
The Great Danes came out and took control of the contest with the game’s first eight goals. Pugh’s first tally cut the UAlbany run before the host team ended the first half on a 3-1 run.
In the second half, the Great Danes scored four straight to open up a 15-2 lead. Pugh once again halted the charge with her second goal, before UAlbany ended the contest with four of the next six goals.
Iona was outshot 38-10 in the game, and the Great Danes held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls.
The Gaels are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Wagner for a 3:00 pm start.
