Iona Softball Stopped at Fordham, 8-4

BRONX, NY – The Iona College softball team dropped an 8-4 decision to Fordham Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Bahosy Field.

Sophomore Kristen Turner collected two hits and drove in two runs while redshirt sophomore Christine Costello drove in the other two runs for the Gaels.

After loading the bases in the second inning without scoring a run, the Rams plated two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run by Lindsay Mayer. In the fourth inning, Fordham took a 3-0 advantage on a solo shot by Rachel Gillen.

Iona cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth when Costello connected on a two-run home run to left, plating senior Brianna Schauer who led off the frame with a single.

Fordham answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Ferri drove in two runners with a down the left field line and Ortiz added a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Turner connected on her second home run of the season, a two run shot that trimmed the deficit to two, 6-4. The Rams added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Michele Daubman earned the victory in the circle for Fordham after tossing the first 5.0 innings. Costello was charged with the loss in the circle after allowing three earned runs on six hits over the first four innings.

The Gaels are back in action Saturday when they host Canisius in their MAAC opener at Donald E. Walsh Field. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
