LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona College lacrosse team (5-9, 1-5 MAAC) dropped an 11-5 decision to Siena (7-7, 2-3 MAAC) Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The Gaels were outscored 4-0 in the first period, before the Saints tallied seven goals to Iona’s five in the second half.
Sophomore Erin Pugh and freshman Jenna Tolzman scored two goals apiece, while senior Meghan Testoni picked up the final Iona tally. Junior Mary Kate McCormick recorded two assists for the Maroon & Gold. Senior Blaire Nathanson made nine saves in net.
After almost 14 minutes of scoreless action to open the contest, Lauren Smith opened the scoring for Siena with 16:04 left in the first. The Saints then tallied three more goals in the final 3:47 of the frame to take a 4-0 lead at half.
In the second half, Siena opened up a five-goal lead before Tolzman scored Iona’s first of the game with 28:48 remaining.
Pugh’s second of the game, and 39th of the season, with 12:14 left started a 3-0 charge by the Gaels that cut the deficit to five, 10-5. The Saints scored the game’s final tally in the final second of play.
Sarah Croutier scored a game high four goals for Siena, while Cara McQuillan scored three times. Overall, Iona was outshot 32-18 in the contest, while the Saints held a 12-5 advantage in draw controls.
