NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College baseball team dropped a non-conference tune-up to Fordham 11-3 at Houlihan Park.
Junior SS Vinny DeMaria led the way with two of Iona’s seven hits including a double in the eighth inning. Junior C Carmine Palummo and sophomore 2B Tyler Bruno both doubled and scored for the Maroon & Gold. Junior DH Zach Brown and freshmen CF Jon Budesa and 1B Matt Flannery drove in the Gaels’ runs.
Five pitchers combined for the Gaels in the effort. Junior LHP John Nargoski took the loss, pitching the first 2.1 innings of the contest.
Fordham’s Kirk Haynes Jr. earned the win allowing a run on three hits in six innings of work. Designated hitter Jordan Gajdos was 3-for-5 with three RBI while SS Joseph DeVito also had three hits for the Rams.
The Gaels return to MAAC play Saturday and Sunday in a three game series at home vs. Saint Peter’s.
