JOHNSTOWN, PA – The Iona College golf team took sixth place at the Saint Francis University Red Flash Spring Golf Invitational at Sunnehanna Country Club.
The Gaels recorded the second lowest team score of the day, 299, and finished with a three round score of 894 (+54), 21 shots shy of first place Robert Morris.
“We played a very solid round today in some pretty tough conditions,” said head coach Chris Merce. “Although we weren’t able to move up in the standings, posting the second best round of the day should provide us with some confidence.”
Senior Evan DeLuca shot a four-over 74 on the day, and finished tied for fifth with a total score of 218 (+8). Graduate student Taylor Bellemare shot a three-over 73 Monday, and finished 14th with a score of 222 (+12).
Freshman Kevin Kramarski carded a five-over 75 in round three, and placed 22nd with a two day score of 228 (+18). Sophomore Brian Fitzpatrick shot a 10-over 80 in the third round, and finished tied for 23rd with a score of 230 (+20).
Senior Tom McHugh registered a seven-over 77, and tied for 28th with a score of 232 (+22). Iona continues spring season action at the Monmouth Invitational on Thursday, Apr. 16.
