PRINCETON, NJ — The Mustangs track and field team traveled to Princeton University on Saturday for the Larry Ellis Invitational. The team broke a number of Monroe College track and field records.
Tresean Goodwin broke the Monroe men’s 400m record with a time of 47.78 while finishing 4th in the event. Tresean’s time qualified him for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships and, later in the day, he also qualified for the 200m by running his season’s best in 21.46.
U.S. Virgin Islands native Alexshandro Rodriguez won the 800m in 1:50.24 — shattering the school record that he set last year by more than 2 seconds. Alexshandro’s time qualified him for the NJCAA Nationals and qualified him to represent his country in the Pan American and CAC Games.
Fabeon Tucker broke the Monroe Hammer Throw record with a toss of 51.42 meters during his final attempt. He qualified for Nationals with a throw of 46.43 in the Discus.
Fresh from his shot put win at the Ramapo College Road Runner Invitational earlier this month,
Mark Ramsey placed second and set an outdoor season best of 16.82.
Various other Monroe Mustangs enjoyed National Championship-qualifying performances and personal bests.
Ronaldo Ball ran the 800m in 1:51.73. Kahleef Gravesande ran a personal best and qualified for the National Championships in the 400m, with a time of 48.37. Walter Penate (53.61) Jamel Johnson (53.96) and Rashad Ramsey (54.45) ran personal bests and qualified for nationals in the 400m hurdles event. Jayvona McDaniel qualified for the National Championships, running the women’s 800m in 2:21.25.
Other performances of note include:
- Tikuan Johnson in the 200m (21.57)
- Damon Daniels in the 800m (1:58.05),
- Shea Coltrain (1:58.47) and Javaun Grant (1:58.53) in the 800m
- Lady Mustang Ernestine Conteh put on two stellar performances, achieving times of 12.29 in the 100m and 24.90 in the women’s 200m.
- Denesha Ransome (25.24) and Shavon Fields (26.56) both ran in the women’s 200m
- Mikah Epps ran a personal best in the 200m with a time of 25.88.
- Christina Burgos completed the women’s 800m with a time of 2:25.63
- Ksenia Safanova finished 10th in the Hammer, with a throw of 50.20 meters.
The Mustangs will next appear in the Penn Relays, one of the major competitions on their schedule, from April 23rd to 25th.
