Penn Relays Bring More Season Bests for Mustangs Track & Field Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Monroe Mustangs track and field team traveled to Philadelphia last week to participate in the Penn Relays — the oldest and largest meet in the U.S. 

The Lady Mustangs 4x100m team of Ernestine Conteh, Mikah Epps, Jaydean Joseph and Denesha Ransome achieved their fastest time of the season to date with a finish of 48:19. The 4x400m relay team of Atara Segree, Denesha Ransome, J’renda Rivera and Jayvona McDaniels ran a 4:05.53.

The 4x200m relay of Mikah Epps, J’Renda Rivera and Denesha Ransome finished 27th out of 56 teams running a new season-best time of 1:41.15.

Katleho Dyoyi finished 13th in the 3000m steeplechase event. His time of 9:23.88 earned him third place on the NJCAA Performance List.

The men’s 4x100m team of Tikuan Johnson, Tresean Goodwin, Walter Penate and Christopher Belcher ran a 41.99, their second-fastest time of the year. The 4x400m team of Kahleef Gravesande, Alexshandro Rodriguez, Damon Daniels and Tresean Goodwin ran a 3:17.91.

On Saturday afternoon, in front of 35,000 spectators, the Mustang team of Javaun Grant (1:59.85), Ronaldo Ball (1:52.86), Shea Coltrain (1:59.58) and Alexshandro Rodriguez (1:54.27) ran the 4x800m in an impressive 7:46.55 – one of the faster junior college times in the country.

In the field events, Teena Mobley recorded a 17’05” in the women’s long Jump; meanwhile on the men’s side, Fabeon Tucker threw 148′ 05″ in the discus, Mark Ramsey threw the 16lb shot 55′ 11″ and Jovan Swaby cleared 6’6.75″ in the high jump.

The Monroe College Track and Field Teams will compete this weekend in thePrinceton Invitational in New Jersey — their final meet before they head to the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Hutchinson, KS.
