NEW ROCHELLE, NY — With the end of the current legislative session coming in June, the pressure is on once again for state lawmakers to pass a tax credit bill that would not only provide direct-tuition tax credits to low-income families sending their children to non-public schools, but also tax credits to teachers purchasing schools supplies.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has committed to advancing what is being called the Parental Choice in Education Act. Parents are being asked to voice their support for Bill No. A2551 to their local Assembly members.
New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan joined Governor Cuomo at two rallies on May 12 to jump-start the renewed advocacy effort. Additional rallies are presently being planned for Brooklyn and the Bronx.
“The Governor reminded us today that the squeaky wheel gets the grease,” His Eminence wrote to diocesan bishops, “and we do indeed need to be the squeaky wheel!”
