NEW ROCHELLE, NY — David Nieves, the father of the toddler who fell out an apartment window, told Talk of the Sound tonight that the ordeal of the last two days has been a nightmare but that by some miracle his son suffered only minor injuries, is expected to make a full recovery and will be released from the hospital tomorrow. Nieves returned to New Rochelle this evening and spoke exclusively with Talk of the Sound.
The three-year old boy fell almost three stories from a second-floor apartment window at May Street in New Rochelle on Wednesday.
Nieves said his son had a slight concussion, slight bruising of the liver and a cut lip. Other than that the boy survived the fall in remarkably good health and is expected to be released from Westchester Medical Center tomorrow.
Nieves was in the bathroom of his apartment when the boy climbed up and out the second story window, falling almost three stories onto a sloped paved ramp.
When the boy fell, Nieves rushed downstairs. He found the boy on the ground being attended to by a New Rochelle police officer. Nieves scooped his son up and raced to the police car where he and his son were driven to the emergency room and Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. The boy was transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY later that day and remains there in stable condition.
Child Protective Services is involved in the case. Nieves said he was not allowed see his son still as the matter remains under investigation.
