NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police are investigating a brazen home invasion which occurred on June 11th in a small neighborhood on Echo Bay, an inlet off Long Island Sound.
The homeowner of a house in the Sutton Manor neighborhood told police that she left her house at 6:05 a.m. She left the premises unlocked because another resident was sleeping in the house.
When the other resident woke up at 7:30 a.m. he noticed all of his cash missing from his wallet but then left on a business trip. The homeowner came home at 6:00 p.m. and notice other items missing from the house.
There were no signs of forced entry.
The homeowner told Talk of the Sound she noticed a man in a vehicle parked two houses away when she left her house. She thought he was suspicious and made note of his description and the make, model and color of the vehicle. This information along with a partial tag number on the license plate was provided to police.
The home invasion was one of several in New Rochelle over the past week. A house on Stephenson Boulevard was robbed when two men distracted the homeowner at the front door and two accomplices entered through the back and stole several thousand dollars. Two apartments on Palmer Avenue were found ransacked when the owners returned home. A woman on Mulberry Lane called police when her ex-husband, a man living in Maryland, attempted to force entry through her front door. New Rochelle police put out a BOLO and the man was captured by Mamaroneck Town Police. There have been a series of recent break-ins in the North End of New Rochelle.
Residents are warned to lock doors, turn on alarm systems and light houses after dark.
