NEW ROCHELLE, NY -The New Rochelle Sister City Committee will host their annual Bastille Day Ceremony at City Hall (front steps) on Tuesday, July 14th. The event will begin at 10 AM and a short reception will follow in City Hall’s Rotunda.
The ceremony will include greetings from Mayor Noam Bramson, and Sister City Initiative Member, Sheila Sarker. Professor Michael J. Hughes, Associate Professor of History, Iona College, will give a presentation titled “France: The Indispensable Ally in the Struggle for American Independence”. The French and American flags will be raised by Alexandre Sherman and Sabrina Sherman from the French-American School of New York. New Rochelle’s City Manager, Charles A. Strome III will provide the closing remarks.
The Bastille Day ceremony is presented annually by the Sister City Initiative, which seeks to deepen the 327-year bond of friendship between New Rochelle and La Rochelle, France.
